L014: National Security Decision Making Game. NSDM is a fast-paced, challenging simulation of contemporary politics and eternal strategic principles, modeled after simulations used by senior U.S. Government officials to explore geopolitical options. A cross between a political LARP, Diplomacy, and a military board game, NSDM has has been presented at war colleges, civilian universities, and gaming conventions throughout the United States for 15 years. NSDM is set in the near future, using real-world maps and data to simulate national and international events. Players occupy a government position in the U.S., Russia, North Korea, China, or another country. The game staff creates interesting situations, and the players are set free to deal with these events - and each other. Each player has assigned objectives which reflect the actual views and capabilities that position has in the real world. The game staff most of whom are senior military officers and DoD war game designers - run whichever other countries or organizations are needed. "Real world" dynamics inexorably draw the players toward cooperation in some areas and conflict in others. Unlike other war games where one "team" of players defeats other teams, in the NSDM Game all players are individually ranked by the degree to which they gain advantage for the group they represent.
