A palace, fortress, and a small city - all-in-one - Alhambra is made up of the world's most beautiful gardens, pavilions, chambers and towers. Build the most splendorous Alhambra to be crowned the winner! Players may play in ONLY ONE of the three qualifying sessions. The winner at each table will advance to the final rounds to play for the U.S. National Championship title and a trophy! Wednesday, 10:00PM - 12:00AM; Session 1A of 3; All Materials Provided. B373: The 2006 U.S. National Bootleggers Championship. It's January, 1921. Prohibition has been in effect for a year, and it looks like the 18th Amendment is here to stay. In Bootleggers, players take on the role of enterprising bosses seeking to make a name for themselves in the illegal alcohol trade at the height of the 1920's prohibition era. Deceit, lies, and alliances of convenience are the norm as players attempt to control distribution through money and corruption by muscling in on the competition, paying off the local law authorities, building underground speakeasies, and shipping trucks of "hooch"! Players may play in ONLY ONE of the three qualifying sessions. The winner at each table will advance to the final rounds to play for the U.S. National Championship title and a trophy! Wednesday, 10:00PM - 12:00AM; Session 1A of 3; All Materials Provided. Beginners Welcome; Fun, All Ages. See Also: B570, B655. Next Session: B766.

B374: The 2006 U.S. National Palabra Championship. Palabra is a combination of words, poker and rummy - guaranteed to "release your mental endorphins." Score by forming a word, a straight (an alphabetical sequence of 3 cards), a flush (5 cards in one color/suit), building on a prior word or straight, or present 6 or 7 vowels. Because of many double and triple multiplier cards, which multiply upon each other, and "color-locking" (which also doubles the score), a small word or straight can be multiplied by 2, 3, 4, 6, 9, 12, 18, etc., and be worth 200 points or more! Stuck with a "Q," an "X," or a "Z?" Don't make a word. Put them in a straight or a flush. Did your opponent just make a 400 point combination? Don't fret. Cancel it with the "joker." Or steal any part of it for yourself. Players may play in ONLY ONE of the three qualifying sessions. The winner at each table will advance to the final round to play for the U.S. National Championship title and a trophy! Wednesday, 10:00PM - 12:00AM; Session 1A of 2; All Materials Provided. Beginners Welcome; Fun, All Ages. See Also: B450, B623. Next Session: B690.

B375: Ticket to Ride. With elegantly simple gameplay, Ticket to Ride can be learned in 3 minutes, while providing players with intense strategic and tactical decisions every turn. Players collect cards of various types of train cars they then use to claim railway routes in North America. The longer the routes, the more points they earn. Additional points come to those who fulfill Destination Tickets - goal cards that connect distant cities; and to the player who builds the longest continuous route. Wednesday, 10:00PM - 12:00AM; One Session; All Materials Provided. Beginners Welcome; Fun, All Ages.

B382: Concentration. One of the simplest games at the convention, the game of Concentration puts 25 cards on the table face down - 12 sets of 2 same-value cards and 1 joker. Players flip two cards, and if they match, they get to keep them; otherwise, they get turned back down again. The joker is an instant match. A real test of memory! Wednesday, 11:00PM - 12:00AM; One Session; All Materials Provided. Beginners Welcome; Serious, All Ages. See Also: B827.

B385: Cosmic Wimpout. The hilarious game of taking chances with dice. Will you stick with what you rolled, or will you risk Wimping Out? Wednesday, 12:00AM - 2:00AM; One Session; All Materials Provided. Beginners Welcome; Silly, All Ages. See Also: B474, B500.

B386: Cutthroat Uno. International Games' wildly popular game of fast decision making, played in its killer variety. Much more fast paced, and much more sniping at your opponents. Wednesday, 12:00AM - 3:00AM; One Session; All Materials Provided. Knowledge Necessary; Fun, All Ages. See Also: B631.

Beginners Welcome; Fun, All Ages. See Also: B705.

B388: San Juan. Puerto Rico's golden age returns in this newer Rio Grande game - through you! Players travel now to the capital city of this beautiful island. Who will build the most important buildings? Players build palaces, poor houses, silver smelters, gold mines, and many others - each with its own special features. The cleverest player will build well and win! Wednesday, 12:00AM - 2:00AM; One Session; All Materials Provided. Beginners Welcome; Fun, All Ages. See Also: B880.

B389: The 2006 U.S. National Carcassonne Championship. This very popular strategy game from Rio Grande Games in its third U.S. National Championship at DEXCON 9! The southern French city of Carcassonne is famous for its unique Roman and Medieval fortifications. The players develop the area around Carcassonne and deploy their followers on the roads, in the cities, in the cloisters, and in the fields. The skill of the players to develop the area will determine who is victorious! Players may play in ONLY ONE of the three qualifying sessions. The winner at each table will advance to the final rounds to play for the U.S. National Championship title and a trophy! Wednesday, 12:00AM - 2:00AM; Session 1A of 3; All Materials Provided. Beginners Welcome; Fun, All Ages. See Also: B434, B595. Next Session: B686.

B390: The 2006 U.S. National Gloom Championship. The world of Gloom is a sad and benighted place. The sky is gray, the tea is cold, and a new tragedy lies around every corner. In this new card game from Atlas Games, you assume control of the fate of an eccentric family of misfits and misanthropes. You want your characters to suffer the greatest tragedies possible before passing on to the well-deserved respite of death. You'll play horrible mishaps like Pursued by Poodles or Mocked by Midgets on your own characters to lower their Self-Worth scores, while trying to cheer your opponents' characters with marriages and other happy occasions that pile on positive points. The player with the lowest total Family Value wins. Players may play in ONLY ONE of the three qualifying sessions. The winner at each table will advance to the final round to play for the U.S. National Championship title and a trophy. Wednesday, 12:00AM - 2:00AM; Session 1A of 2; All Materials Provided. Beginners Welcome; Fun, All Ages. See Also: B546, B714. Next Session: B816.

B398: Basari. Several games use the 'rock-paper-scissors' mechanism, but this Out of the Box game is perhaps one of the best. During a turn, players each roll a die and move their markers around a track. They then choose one of four different actions to perform. The choices are revealed simultaneously, and if only one player chose a particular action, he simply performs that action. Otherwise players may have to either negotiate for the right to perform the action or just not perform any action that turn. Thursday, 10:00AM - 12:00PM; One Session; All Materials Provided. Beginners Welcome; Fun, All Ages.

B399: Blokus. In this abstract strategy with transparent, tetris-shaped, colored pieces players try to get rid of all their pieces. The only caveat to placing a piece is that it may not lie adjacent to your other pieces. Instead you must place your pieces at the vertices of your pieces already on the board. Thursday, 10:00AM - 12:00PM; One Session; All Materials Provided. Beginners Welcome; Serious, All Ages.

B400: Caylus. Once upon a time...1289. To strengthen the borders of the Kingdom of France, King Philip the Fair decided to have a new castle built. For the time being, Caylus is but a humble village, but soon, workers and craftsmen will be flocking by the cartload, attracted by the great prospects. Around the building side, a city is slowly rising up. The players embody master builders. By building the King's castle and developing the city around it, they earn prestige points and gain the King's favor. When the castle is finished, the player who has earned the most prestige wins the game. Thursday, 10:00AM - 1:00PM; One Session; All Materials Provided. Beginners Welcome; Silly, All Ages. See Also: B841.

Players maneuver their way through the Abbey examining clues and questioning each other to find out who is the culprit. A masterful game of deduction! Thursday, 10:00AM - 1:00PM; One Session; All Materials Provided. Beginners Welcome; Serious, All Ages. See Also: B752.

B403: Palazzo. Who will build the most magnificent palace? In the game of Palazzo, set in the age of the late Renaissance, the players slip on the roles of wealthy landowners, who compete against each other to build the most valuable palaces. As their constructions grow, the players must choose from the available palace modules from the quarries, so they can add to their palaces. Of course, none of this building can be done without money, so sometimes a player must take time out to earn some money so he can afford to continue his building projects. Thursday, 10:00AM - 12:00PM; One Session; All Materials Provided. Beginners Welcome; Fun, All Ages.

B406: Express. Building trains is an integral part of America's history. Now the tradition continues with Express, a unique card game for the 90's. Reminiscent of classic card games but including new play twists, this Mayfair game is as easy to learn as rummy. Players start with a one-car train and build on their meld to maximize points and bonuses. But players must be wary of train wrecks and derailments. Unique play allows partners to pass key cards to each other during the game. Express is sure to be a hit for years to come. Thursday, 11:00AM - 1:00PM; One Session; All Materials Provided. Beginners Welcome; Fun, All Ages. See Also: B519.

B407: Pit. Parker Brothers' hilarious card game of tradable stocks. Players try to collect a complete run of a given commodity while trading with each other in REAL TIME. Always the loudest game at the convention! Thursday, 11:00AM - 1:00PM; One Session; All Materials Provided. Beginners Welcome; Silly, All Ages. See Also: B878.

B408: Poison. The mad doctor has cooked up something evil in Reiner Knizia's Poison, a clever strategy card game. Players choose a potion card from their hand to add to one of three colored cauldrons, being careful not to let the pot go over a total value of 13. The player who causes the cauldron to go over 13 must take all of the cards within it, trying to avoid taking a potion mixed with poison. Be the player with either the most or none of any potion and you're safe - otherwise take the risk of receiving a deadly dose of poison! Thursday, 11:00AM - 1:00PM; One Session; All Materials Provided. Beginners Welcome; Fun, All Ages. See Also: B853.

B409: Yahtzee. Hasbro's classic game of dice rolling for points. Maybe you can call it out, if you don't think it's too corny. Thursday, 11:00AM - 1:00PM; One Session; All Materials Provided. Beginners Welcome; Serious, All Ages. See Also: B859.

B414: Coloretto. Friends of "quick and easy, but fun" card games may rejoice, as this is certainly a winner in this respect. It is not the deepest of games, but can be a satisfying filler or closer for an evening of games. Collect columns of colors, but beware of too many - too great diversity brings negative points! The game is very easy, but not dumb, appealing to both gamers and non-gamers. Thursday, 2:00PM - 4:00PM; One Session; All Materials Provided. Beginners Welcome; Fun, All Ages.

B415: Iron Dragon. In what is probably the most elaborate of the crayon rail games from Mayfair, players are set within a fantasy world attempting to create an extensive and profitable rail network. Players use crayons to draw their rail lines on the game board itself and use their existing rail lines to pick up and deliver commodities for payouts dictated by cards. Thursday, 2:00PM - 6:00PM; One Session; All Materials Provided. Beginners Welcome; Fun, All Ages.

B416: Sitting Ducks. No duck is safe in Sitting Ducks Gallery, where the object is to maneuver your ducks down the row and avoid getting in the line of fire! Get your ducks out of the water before feathers start flying, because cards can target, shoot, or move the line in various ways! If your birds of a feather can stick together and keep from getting hit, you could be the last Sitting Duck in the lake! Thursday, 2:00PM - 4:00PM; One Session; All Materials Provided. B432: Mesopotamia. Mesopotamia looks like a heavy game, but the mechanisms are simple and the game builds easily as you play. At the center is the Ziggurat where you must bring 4 sacrifice tokens to win. But to deliver them you must have sufficient Mana reserved by praying in temples, which players build. You bring your sacrifices from 4 huts which you build, and you can breed at an empty hut to increase your people. To build huts, temples and Mana, you use rocks and timber that you collect from quarries and forests. Each turn, you can move 5 places, placing new tiles if you go off the map, seeding stones or timber if they are quarries or forests, carrying resource to empty plains if you want to build. Building a hut or temple, breeding, or drawing an action card ends your turn, and you bank Mana if you have people on temples. So gradually, you build up your clan and have them do different things. Some stand at temples to pray, some explore and carry resource, others help build or breed. And when you deliver a sacrifice, you kill the messenger too, thus needing to breed more. Thursday, 4:00PM - 6:00PM; One Session; All Materials Provided. Beginners Welcome; Serious, All Ages.

B613: Category 5 (6 Nimmt!). There are 104 cards numbered from 1 to 104. Every card has at least 1 small ox-head on it, which will score against you. The deck is shuffled and players are dealt 10 cards each. Four more are dealt up on the table to form the start of four rows. When each player has chosen a card from their hand, these are revealed and put on the ends of the rows according to simple rules. As the rows get longer, a row with five cards in it is full. If your card is to be the 6th, you pick up the 5 cards in the row, and your 6th card goes to the front to restart the row. The cards you pick up do not go into your hand, but sit in front of you to score against you at the end of the round. Play rounds until someone hits -66 and the least lowest score wins. In the good old days, you could simply sit on your broomstick and fly off. But now, the flight pattern of the duster must first be properly programmed into the machine. No surprise then, that witches who aren't yet completely familiar with the new technology often end up on the wrong track while programming their flight routes.
