At DEXCON 9/INTERCON NORTHEAST in East Brunswick, New Jersey

In this extraordinary contest, eight teams of 2-4 GMs will be chosen from among the applicants, and will each be locked into a separate hotel room for 24 hours from 12:00 Noon on July 13, 2006 to 12:00 Noon on July 14, 2006. Their mission: To create a 2-hour LARP for 12 players, based almost entirely on three mystery themes which will be supplied to them in their hotel room. Each of the LARPs will subsequently be played by a group of players during the course of the convention, and the winning team (as judged by the players) will receive $500.00 in cash and a Championship Trophy (other valuable prizes will go to the runners up)!

The hotel rooms are provided free of charge by Double Exposure, and we will also honor all reasonable requests for food and other normal needs, delivered right to the room. Room phones will be removed, cell phones will be surrendered, and the teams will have nothing to work with other than computers (sans internet access) and other material suitable for writing and producing the LARP. Identical reference sources for the mystery themes will be available in the rooms. In other words, no outside contact will be allowed.

Each team must produce and present a SEALED, finished LARP, ready to run. The order in which the LARPs will be played will be determined by random draw. The teams are not allowed to modify the game after Noon on July 14.

Players will rate the games based on pre-determined criteria, such as:

1) The overall enjoyability of the LARP
2) How well the three mystery themes were integrated and exploited
3) The depth of the characterization and interaction
