LARP (Live Action Role Playing) Schedule for METATOPIA 2014

Updated 11/5/14 at 11:45PM

METATOPIA Event Registration works slightly differently from other Double Exposure events. While there are no advancement rounds, some of the events are red to start with because they are "invitation only". This does NOT mean that you are completely excluded from playing in them, only that you need to be invited. So when you send an eMail to us, you may ask to be included in those events. We will probably call you and discuss your choices with you.

All non-panel events are classified as one of three different levels of Playtest:

[FOCUS GROUP]: The game is still in the concept stage and players should be expecting to discuss ideas and opinions about how the game should be created, but not actually test much.

[ALPHA TEST]: The game is in early development and not quite ready to play from beginning to end. Players should be expecting to play parts of the game, and perhaps replay those parts or focus on one section of the rules at a time.

[BETA TEST]: The game is in late development and is ready to be played all the way through. Players should be expecting to give feedback and criticism about the game while playing it.

If an event is tagged by the phrase "[NDA REQUIRED]", the Designer has asked that details about his/her game design be kept quiet. The Designer may ask players to sign an actual NDA form, or to just verbally promise not to discuss the game after the playtest.

PLEASE INCLUDE YOUR PHONE NUMBER(S) IN YOUR EMAIL SO WE CAN REACH YOU IF NECESSARY!

So send eMail with the events you would LIKE to play in, whether you are a Designer, a Helper or a Player. We will do our best to match you up with the events that you are interested in. There WILL be a Big Board at METATOPIA, and any seats which are not filled in advance CAN be filled at the convention.

You are also allowed to submit a second and third choice for events in the same time slot, which will save us time in negotiating what you can get into if your primary choice is filled already. Just make it clear what is an alternate choice so we can enter things quickly.

Also, PLEASE note "D" events (panels and seminars) along with others - it is important that we track interest in the various panels, and that we know where you have holes in your schedule.

Send your reservation eMail to us at m2014@dexposure.com

You may ONLY reserve seats in METATOPIA 2014 events if you are pre-registered. Click here to pre-register for METATOPIA 2014 if you have not already done so.

We will reply within 24 hours with a confirmation that your requests were received. If you do NOT get a confirmation, assume that your codes are NOT received and try again. Note that you MUST include a valid eMail reply-to address for us to reach you to confirm!

L140: [FOCUS GROUP] "Aftermath" by In the Moment Productions; presented by Ericka Skirpan. Aftermath is a live action role play experience set as the dust settles in the wake of World War Two. In this world, there was no victory in Japan. No victory in Europe. The world did not end until so many bombs were dropped that barely anyone knew who was left. All the major cities of the globe have been obliterated by this new and terrible nuclear force. Now, those left behind from the great war must deal with the aftermath. Women, children, academics, the rich, those deemed disabled and draft dodgers work together to rebuild some semblance of life in rural America. Friday, 2:00PM - 3:00PM; Serious, 18 & Over ONLY.

L141: [BETA TEST] "Against the Grain" presented by Moyra Turkington. Baltimore, August 1944: In Europe and Asia, World War II is raging. When the first African American inspector joins an all-white, all-female crew at the Western Electric Point Breeze Works, a wildcat hate strike is launched to reject her employment. Against the Grain fictionalizes this moment in history to explore the intersectional allocation of freedom and equality. L178: [BETA TEST] Freeform; "Sins of the Father" by Damocles Thread Development; presented by Jacqueline Bryk. A multigenerational hell. The Barbatos family has a deep dark secret, and it's not the embezzling, the murders, the incest, or the rampant narcissism. Each generation, the cousins gather to decide which of them will sell their soul for the good of the family. It isn't just figurative language about the evils of money perverting the souls of those who do what it takes to make it. No, the Barbatos family is in bed with the Devil in the most literal of ways. Sins of the Father is an American Freeform LARP. Friday, 5:00PM - 8:00PM; Very Serious, 18 & Over ONLY.

L187: [ALPHA TEST] "Terra Nullius" presented by Chris Amherst. A freeform game where you craft the space-faring cultures responsible for a war that raged across the galaxy, lasting generations, and leaving devastated planets in it's wake. Empires, federations, or republics who have decided peace is a better option, but now their representatives are faced with a difficult choice during their treaty negotiations at a outpost in an unclaimed star system. The choice will be: Who stays and who goes? Friday, 6:00PM - 8:00PM; Serious, 18 & Over ONLY.

[FILLED] L213: [ALPHA TEST] "Run Them Again" presented by Moyra Turkington. You ran the numbers when you came out of hypersleep. You have a 19.5% chance of survival. To get even that much you must be back in your can in under three hours and thirty-one minutes. There are things you can do increase the odds, but they offer no guarantees. In fact, attempting them may kill you faster. You ran the numbers, now make your choices and run them again. A science fiction labour drama about the cold equations of systems that do not care: the unyielding physics of deep space, the tenuous connections with other people, and the utilitarian calculus of sacrifice and profit.
